Beginning Band

Welcome Bulldog Beginning Band students,

We are excited you are joining our CTMS Bulldog Band family. We hope you are looking forward to learning to play your instrument and making beautiful music! A few important things to know:
 

How do I join the CTMS Band?

All you need to do is select Band as your Fine Arts elective for 6th grade.
 

How do I select an instrument?

In late March and early April, we will schedule you for an instrument interview time at the CTMS Band Hall. At that time, directors will help you make the instrument selection that is the best fit for you.

If the directors select you for Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, or Percussion, you will need to rent or purchase your instrument and supplies from a local music store. Please, contact the directors before you rent or purchase an instrument so we can help you with your selection.

When shopping, stick with the brands and model numbers from the instrument list below. It is crucial  that everyone has a quality instrument that plays well. If you are considering a different instrument, contact us before you purchase. There are inexpensive instruments out there that break easily, cannot be repaired, and/or do not play in tune. While they might be very affordable, these instruments are actually more difficult for the student to play, and we aim to steer students away from them. 

If you are selected for Oboe, Bassoon, French Horn, Baritone, or Tuba, you will need to purchase your mouthpiece and supplies from a local music store, and the instrument will be provided by the school. School owned instruments will be issued in the summer before school starts. These instruments have a $100 NISD Instrument Usage Fee. More information will be sent out about the fee and payment options in August.
